Last week, our team stepped away from the factory and lab for our two day autumn getaway up in the mountains. People from sales, R&D, QC, production and logistics all joined in. It’s not often we get to sit down and talk face to face without order emails, test reports and shipment schedules filling every minute.

We checked into a quiet mountain guesthouse on Thursday morning. After settling in and having lunch together, we started our team games. We mixed people from different departments into each group on purpose. A sales account manager would be paired with our lab technician, a production supervisor with a logistics coordinator. During these games, they learned how each other works, what hurdles they run into every day, and what support they need to move a customer project forward. There was lots of banter and good natured teasing while teams worked through challenges. No fancy awards, just everyone pitching in for their group. Later that evening, we lit a small campfire and held a simple birthday celebration for teammates born this month. Some shared snacks, others sang casually. It was low key and warm.

The next day was free for everyone to pick what they wanted to do. A big group headed out for the valley hike. The autumn leaves were bright, and we stopped many times to take photos and catch our breath. Some colleagues preferred to stay back at the guesthouse, playing billiards or badminton. A few others wandered the nearby streets. No rigid schedules pushing everyone along.
